What is Reiki? I am interested in learning Reiki. Can anyone tell me exactly what it is all about and where I can go to learn more on this subject? Thanks! Rev. Two Bears replied: "Reiki is energy healing via universal lifeforce.
The Chinese talk of ch'i or qi.
The people of India and tibet call lifeforce prana
the hawai'ians called lifeforce mana.
There are dozesn of other names for this lifeforce; but that is enough to get you started.
The Reiki history goes back to Sensei Mikao Usui. He was born in 1965, and passed from this plane in 1926.
There are two completely different stories about sensei usui.
1. that he was a Tendai Buddhist monk, and the other that he was a dean of a Christian university in Japan."

xxamethystnightxx replied: "In short, reiki is an energy healing. "rei" meaning universal or god and "ki" meaning the inner energy we all have (also called chi or qi). Together meaning universal life force healing. Fun, right? It can be done hands on or from a distance. There's tons and tons of places to learn about reiki. I did a lot of my learning from a distance. Some people do feel that learning from a distance is not possible, but energy is endless. If I can send healings from a distance, I can send attunements from a distance. :) I was attuned to about 40 different reiki and energy healing systems now. I do suggest, however, that you do take at least one class in person just to get the feel for it. Your local metaphysical shop usually has some reiki healers/teachers based out of there. If not, it can't hurt to look online for classes/teachers. I think has a teacher database? I apologize if I am wrong. lol If you have any questions just let me know. I usually reply within a day or two."
carolynmaloney2 replied: "Reiki is a Japanese technique of applying and balancing the energy or electrical patterns in the body, mind and spirit. The body’s ability to heal physical aliments increases. Reiki also opens the mind to the necessity for taking responsibility for one’s life; to the joys of balance and wholeness.
Reiki is pronounced 'ray-key' in the continental United States (mainland). However in Japan "R" is not pronounced as we pronounce R's. The sound seems more like L or D. The symbol or image is Kanji Japanese which is the formal written language evolved from Chinese. The Chinese word for the same kanji is Ling Chi which means Spirit Energy.
Rei means Universal, transcendental spirit, mysterious power, essence actual translation is "Ghost, Shaman or Spirit". Ki means essence the literal translation is "steam of the cooking rice" and is a vital life force energy, the meaning is the same as Chi or Qi of Traditional Chinese Medicine and Martial Arts . The same meaning for the word is Mana in Hawaiian, or Prana in India.
Reiki is not a religion. It beholds to no doctrines, creeds or contradictions to the Universal laws of Consciousness and Love. No matter where the person may be at a certain point in their lives, Reiki will harmonize and embrace their philosophical center point, adding to it their individual concept of life.
Reiki is a healing energy that is transmitted through the hands of a person who has been more directly linked to the Universal Life Force through an initiation or attunement. This attunement begins a self healing harmonizing and balancing within, allowing the new Reiki student to increase and project healing to another." For those with personal experience, what is reiki? I have heard of reiki and would like to know, in layman's terms, what it is and what it involves.
I would like to hear only from reiki practitioners and those who have had at least one reiki session.
Also, from those of you who have had reiki done on you, did you feel it was effective and in what ways?
Thank you for all who answer helpfully!

Question 1:
What it is?
Reiki is a Japanese personal development system which can lead to relaxation, stress reduction, healing and even enlightenment. Mostly though, outside of Japan, it is known as an alternative therapy to promote relaxation / healing.
Question 2:
What it involves?
This could go on forever. I'm assuming you mean what's involved in a reiki treatment or session - OK, the practitioner will encourage you to relax and place his/her hands on your body (or just above your body). You keep your clothes on, lay there and relax. Spiritual energy moves into your body, via the practitioner, filling your energy channels with energy, blasting away the build up of energetic junk which causes stress, illness and negativity.
Question 3:
Did you feel it was effective?
Hell yes, deeply relaxing and feeling much better afterward."
Tucson*sunrise replied: "Reiki involves healing using the bodies natural energies.
I have used Reiki on people, and also had it used on me.
I know some people who say that it has helped them heal faster when they have recieved Reiki over the dis-eased area, a sprain, fracture, etc.
By slowly moving my hand over someones body, I can pinpoint "hot" spots that are areas in need of healing, these spots are significantly hotter than any other part of the body, and my hand will actually stay warm while over it. When this happens I make sure I give extra attention to these areas, by transferring healing energy into them.
Reiki heals parts of the body that need it, when you practice Reiki you attune yourself to helping and healing in a natural positive way with your energies."
prana_devi replied: "Namaste-
I've been a Usui Reiki Master since 2001, and became a Reiki practitioner after my own experience with Reiki healing sessions.
I was seeking alternative treatments for a chronic, inherited illness. I had tried several modalities, and was seeing an aromatherapist regularly. I was seeing some improvement, but nothing amazingly dramatic. However I thoroughly enjoyed the treatments, and continued to have them for many months.
There was also a Reiki practitioner that worked at that healing centre. One day she had a client that had cancelled, and knowing that I was curious about energy healing she offered to give me a treatment for free during that opening. I accepted, and it changed my life.
The experience itself was amazingly relaxing. I had never felt that deep of a state of peace and inner quiet before. There were waves of subtle sensations all over my body, and I was awash in feelings of health and light. What was MOST impressive to me was that that state of centeredness and balance stayed with me for nearly a full week!! I began seeing her for Reiki treatments regularly, and the improvements continued.
Eventually, I took a class to become a Reiki practitioner, so that I could give myself treatments in between seeing the practitioner, and then maybe I could offer it to friends and family. Even though everyone had told me how simple it was, I was sure that it would be extremely difficult and that I would not be able to be proficient. I was very suprised at how simple it actually was!
Over the next few months I was presented with more and more opportunities to receive treatments from other practitioners, which helped me develop my own skills by learning from their techniques. I was also giving more and more treatments to others. I was also developing intuitively in a very rapid manner, and my spirituality was deepening with the support of the Reiki energy, and the more visionary experiences that I was having as a result of the treatments. My health was steadily improving, too, which was icing on the cake. More and more synchronicity was occuring that was leading me to information and situations that opened more door towards greater health, and spiritual development.
Very soon the Reiki practitioner at the healing centre I was attending moved away, and I was offered the position. I have continued to practice and develop as a healer ever since. In 2001 I completed my Usui Masters training, and began teachings others as well. I learn so much from my students, that it's every bit as beneficial for me as for them.
Here's some answers from the FAQ I use with my Usui Reiki certification classes:
What is Reiki?
Reiki is a hands-on healing technique that originated in Japan. Reiki is a Japanese word that roughly translates "universal life-force energy". What Reiki refers to is a codified system of non-invasive, hands-on healing method that utilizes the life-force energy that surrounds every living thing in the universe (the Chinese "chi", Japanese "ki", Hindu "prana", the Tao, etc) to aid in the release of blockages in the energetic nervous system in the body, speeding recovery from dis-ease. The technique works on the same principle as acupuncture, shiatsu, reflexology and other Eastern methods that are being recognized and covered by many major insurance companies world-wide. Reiki has no contraindications and does not require the client to disrobe to receive a treatment.
Reiki has been clinically proven to reduce stress, aid in pain management, speed recovery from illness and surgery, and mentally support those coping with traumatic life changes and issues. In Europe, hospitals in many countries are staffing Reiki Masters regularly, as they have found them to be indispensable. Surgeons request their presence during high-risk operations, as patients who are supported by Reiki healing during surgery require less anesthetic to keep them under, less pain medicine afterwards, and a faster discharge with fewer complications overall! Following suit, some North American hospitals have begun running Reiki clinics to scientifically document the effects. Insurance companies in Europe and the United States are also beginning to provide limited coverage for Reiki treatments. The positive effects of Reiki are becoming common knowledge in the mainstream, and I couldn't be more pleased!
What happens during a Reiki treatment?
During a Reiki treatment, the client lays on either a massage table, or a yoga mat while the Reiki Master performs the treatment. In general a recipient can expect to be interviewed by their practitioner before the treatment in order to determine what areas of dis-ease need to be concentrated on. This initial consultation may involve dowsing the aura with a pendulum &/or the practitioner using her hands to assess the energy field. Any blockages or excess "psychic dust" will be explained to the client, and cleared away during the treatment." What are Reiki Chakras and Reiki Symbols ? I want to know what are Reiki Chakras and Symbols and from where i can learn reiki in Delhi ? Neeta K replied: "Reiki Chakras And Reiki symbols are healing techniques in Reiki. You need to get Attuned from Reiki Master .If you want to learn reiki i suggest you to get knowledg about reiki."
Jared L replied: "Reiki is braindead nonsense.
Don't waste time or money on this fantasy."
Arrow replied: "Oh my Gosh! You are in Delhi? As in India?
The greatest masters in energy have come from India. You have a culture and history paramont to all.
Reiki can not teach you anything that your Yogic Masters can not teach you. In the Reiki learning process you will pay much for what a master yogi will teach you for very little.
The symbols that Reiki use are all the same as the chakra system deplicted in so many of the yoga charts I have seen. They are often seen as various color Lotus flowers. There are 7 of these chakras in/on/and connected directly with the body and two more that hover above the body in the auric field. I learned "Reiki" before reiki was every a "trade" name from a minister of the Church of Religious Science.
But go ahead. Pay your money for a training. It is the way of the world now. But remember Reiki holds no secrets that can not be found elsewhere for free. Below is an address to a Reiki blog. The owner of this blog teaches and travels to South America at times. Perhaps he can connect you to someone in Delhi. While you are there check out his posts on MMS."
shalini bhalla replied: "n number of people will say n number of things . I feel if someone is interested in somthin we should not stop him , rather because you don't know exactly why that person is asking ? So i feel you should go through good sites of Reiki to aquire knowledge about Reiki basics , but yes if you want you can join atleast Reiki I to get attuned atleast . Afterwords you can learn through online sites about Reiki."
Michelle replied: "The chakras are not specific to Reiki they are energy centers on the body and there are different opinions on them depending on what you read. I find the Kundalini chakras to be the most effieicent. In this system there are seven chakras along various parts of the spine from base to head. Each chakra being associated with a color, organs in the body and life issues. One does not need to really know these to do Reiki but it helps.
Reiki symbols are a way to identify and to call upon different frequencies of healing energies much like we use misical notes to call upon specific sounds. There are many different healing energies and Reiki uses specific energies, these symbols help us to name and recognize the energies we use and when our mind gets distracted, drawing the symbols gives the mind something to do.
There are many fine Reiki Master Teachers throughout India as Reiki is very popular there. As to where you will find one, I do not know, perhaps you can search online or just start asking around. A friend of mine from Holland took her level 2 Reiki from a monk somewhere in India. I do not know how she found him or where in India he was located.
Good luck finding your teacher." What is Reiki and how does it work? Is it better than acupuncture or are they two different approaches? And does Reiki work on your chakras' and or soul? Osiris2067 replied: "Reiki is an ancient hands on healing modality. How it works is this: The person doing the Reiki session channels energy from the crown to the hands. This energy can be felt as heat, coolness, pulsations.. etc.
The energy is then given to the person needing the healing.

mysticrelation replied: "Yes Reiki works on your chakara's and soul. It is a different healing approach than acupuncture. Reiki isn't medically proven to heal, although it has had great results..This is a non-touch approach from a Reiki specialist who pulls the bad energy from your body, cleansing you. It is done in a very low lit room with a very spiritual person..
I have had Reiki done, and i HIGHLY recomend it"
angelic1 replied: "Although I'm a certified Reiki Master Teacher, I would say that neither is better as they are both entirely different approaches.
Accupuncturists place small needles in various pressure points in the body and are able to cure people of many ailments and allergies.
Reiki on the other hand is non-contact. The practitioner places their hands about an inch above the body and the healing energy moves through the recipients body via the hands of the practitioner. When I am doing a reiki session I work my way down over the five chakras, however, I am often guided to place my hands over other parts of the body where I feel heat and know that the healing energy is needed.
Reiki works on your mind, body and soul. So, in answer to your question .. reiki works on your chakras and your soul.
" What is Reiki and how does it heal? What all does Reiki heal and how is it done? Ricky N. replied: "Reiki is the art of healing with the hands
You cannot learn Reiki online or from books
You need to personally learn it from a Reiki Master.
to know more about this miraculous art of healing please Google search "Reiki""
William T replied: "It's yet another debunked "healing energy" scam. It doesn't heal anyone. You can print out the "Reiki Master" certificate online if you have a credit card, sometimes not even that. You don't have to learn from another "master."
"
Gary Y replied: "Reiki has never beaten placebo under clinical trial conditions. Its a scam, but mainly its the so-called masters and teachers scamming the students out of big money. Alt med is rife with such scams. The concept of Reiki energy would be funny if it wasn't so sad."
Seafyre replied: "Reiki is an energy based healing system. Reiki can help one to heal and become enlightened in any situation, dis-ease, etc.
I believe that Reiki works on many levels for many different things.
I think it is great that it is a healing modality that anyone can learn, practice, and use on a daily basis.
I love the fact that it is also helps one on their road towards enlightenment and that the enlightenment can continue to be found throughout the life of the person working with Reiki.
There are different Reiki modalities....I think they are great. Many are what I call "Reiki Plus", as it is not just the Reiki energy that is used but another form of energy that is also healing. I believe these are a natural form that comes about from those who are attuned to Reiki and also find another source that helps with healing and enlightenment of themselves or others.
It heals on an energetic level, a vibrational level. It uses Universal Energies, some equate it to love and/or the ultimate healing energy within the universe; basically it is seen many ways by a variety of religious views and personal view points.
Reiki is performed by a hands-on, or hovering over, as well as distance methods. One is attuned to these energies permanently by a Reiki Master/Teacher. These are done in person or via distance methods.
As for the distance attunements and sessions...they do work, and therefore are a good thing in my opinion. And people have a variety of ways that they do their distance sessions/treatments/attunements and all of those are valid.
If you are interested I suggest that you check out different Reiki Master/Teachers and only work with one that you are comfortable with. Unfortunately not all who claim to be Reiki Masters/Teachers really have had the necessary attunements to do so.
I also suggest that you read some books on the subject, keep in mind that like any book written it is written from the author's point of view and as such not all two books will say the same thing.
But alas....tis only my opinion.....lol." Can Reiki help one to learn how to transfer ones sexual energy to another form of energy? What is Reiki? Thanks ( : ) send good thoughts to me replied: "What I know about Reiki is that it is divine energy channeled. So if I do Reiki on you it means I am putting my hand,is on you but I am like I am working as an extension cord. So there is the electricity, the extention cord & whatever is getting the electricity...so the Universe is equal to the place you plug the cord into in the wall, I am the extention & you are the lamp for example. I don't know of it transfering anyones energy it is more like the Reiki is channelled energy that's all."
reikimom515 replied: "Are you looking to release sexual tension? Reiki has nothing to do with sex or any sexual acts. It's purely a form of relaxation that has the added benefit of helping people deal with pain or recovery faster from surgery. If you're looking for sexual energy you may want to look up "Tantric" sexual energy. Good luck, either way."
TheWindsorExpress.com replied: "Reiki can help a lot of patients with their ailments. The best thing to do is to do your research and find the best alternative medicine for your ailment."
Rosario replied: "Reiki energy is universal, infinate wisdom, so whatever needs to happen during a Reiki treatment will. When Reiki is performed correctly intent is set aside and the wisdom is allowed to take over. So I wouldn't seek out a Reiki treatment with the hopes of bringing about some specific transformation your gross mind (waking mind) is fixated on. The Reiki treatment will probably bring about a more necessary and profound healing personalized to you.
Btw I dont at all agree with the other answer that Reiki is purely a relaxation aid. In my experience it is not limited to categorical purposes like this" What is Reiki and Reiki Chakras? Does any body know reiki ? shalini bhalla replied: "Reiki is one of the Healing Techniques . Reiki also helps in Spritual Growth , with the help of Reiki chakras . i would suggest you to go through to know more about REIKI"
David G replied: "it's total bs

reiki_healing_master replied: "Reiki is a wonderful healing technique, which works excellent even where the normal medical science stops to work.
I have practical experiences of this as I heal in reality. If you want I can provide proofs of people who got benefit of this from me.
Human Body has energy chakras which Reiki balances very well. Due to the non flow of energy in any specific Chakra, body gets ill, but this wonderful Reiki works there and normalises the flow of energy and makes the body feel good, relaxed and also makes it healthy.
Some of the writers here have no experiance of this, and with their blocked mind they say negative words for this amazing healing method.
With love and light......"
Moneli replied: "I got into Reiki about 6 years ago when a friend recommended a session with her practitioner for my thyroid problems. It was such an amazing experience and made a great improvement on my hormonal health that I decided to learn it myself and become a practitioner.
Reiki (pronounced ray kee) means “universal life energy”. The word Reiki is made up of two Japanese words: Rei, or universal spirit (sometimes thought of as a supreme being), and ki (energy or chi). Thus, the word Reiki means "universal life energy." It is an ancient system of subtle energy-based healing transmitted through touch and distant healing techniques to provide recipients pain relief, relaxation, chakra balancing, stress relief, physical healing, emotional healing, and a deepened awareness to one’s spiritual connection.

Julia B replied: "Chakras are energetic vortexes located throughout the body; the main chakras run from the perineum to the crown of the head and are located centrally. Many natural healing modalities recognize chakras, and there are many ways to bring them in to alignment including the use of sound, touch healing, and flower essence." |
